Jack Wesley Huff, 93 of Scottdale, passed away suddenly, Sunday, October 7, 2018. Born December 12, 1924 in Owensdale, son of the late John Huff and Anna Mildred (Sheaffer) Huff Kastner.
Jack attended Scottdale High School then was called to service in the US Army April 15, 1943. He attended basic training at Ft. McClelland, AL, then at Ft. Benning, GA. He was a member of the “Pioneer Platoon Demolition.” Jack went overseas to Europe January 25, 1944 attached to HQ Co 38th Infantry 2nd Division. He participated in the Normandy Campaign in France June 6, 1944. Jack was wounded June 11, 1944, then discharged from Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, DC on December 4, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal with one campaign star.
On January 13, 1947 Jack married Jacqueline Joyce Reese in the Owensdale EUB Church. They had two daughters, Janine and Jill. Jack worked for the former J.I. Murphy Funeral Home and Furniture Store. He attended Franklin Commercial College, then worked at Penn Line Service. Jack worked for Supowicz Brothers Shoe Stores doing master trims in many store windows while supervising several stores from 1953 to 1987 when he retired while living in Level Green. Jack was a very active member of the Scottdale Church of Christ where he belonged to the Co-Strivers Class. He spoke at Hempfield Towers on Sunday afternoons taking the gospel to residents. Jack was a good and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, his Savior.
Jack served as Grand Marshall in the Scottdale’s 2017 Veteran’s Day Parade.
Jack’s wife, Jacqueline Joyce preceded him in death April 18, 2017 and daughter, Jill Lynn Martin May 3, 2008.
Jack was the ultimate good and helpful husband; and most loving and wise dad.
Surviving is Jack’s daughter Janine Joyce Rutherford (Bill), eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jack’s Celebratory Memorial Service Saturday, October 20 at 11 am in the Scottdale Church of Christ 215 N. Chestnut St. Scottdale with Pastor Rick Phillips officiating, followed by military honors. Private inurnment will take place in the Scottdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Scottdale Concerned Veteran’s. Please make checks to Scottdale Borough with “Concerned Veteran’s” in the memo and mail to: 10 Mt.
