Jean S. Vies, 66, of Scottdale, passed away, Monday, May 10, 2010 in UPMC Presbyterian surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born August 31, 1943 in Oak Hill, WV a daughter of the late Clyde Dorton, Sr. and June (Smith) Dorton of Bridegeport, WV.
Jean owned and operated Vies Hair Fashions in Scottdale for 20years. She retired to begin taking care of her grandchildren to whom she was so devoted. Jean was also active in many roles working along side her family at Fox's Pizza Den in Scottdale. She will be remembered as being loyal to her family and friends and working tirelessly in many capacities in and around the Borough of Scottdale.
In addition to her mother, June Dorton, Jean is survived by her loving husband, James L. Vies. She was the love of his life. Also surviving are her loving and devoted children, Julie Vies Ritenour and husband David, Jr.; Jennifer Vies Olack and husband Brian; Janine Vies Morgan and husband John; Jason Vies and wife Amy (Medvec); four adoring grandchildren, Joshua Ritenour; Jacob Ritenour; Colton Vies and Jenna Morgan; two sisters, Judy Thompson and husband, Danny and Jane Atchinson and husband, Don; a brother, Bill Dorton and wife Chris and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Dorton, Jr. and David Dorton.
Jean requested there be no public visitation. The family will remember her with a celebration of life service, which will be announced at a future date. Family and friends are welcome to honor Jean with a memorial contribution in her name to the Scottdale Public Library 106 Spring St. Scottdale or the Scottdale Chamber of Commerce 318 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, PA 15683.
