Joseph A. Sabat, 71 of Scottdale, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021. He was born July 5, 1950 in Coraopolis a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Lozen) Sabat.
Joe was a graduate of Southmoreland High School Class of 1968 and served six years in the Army National Guard attaining the rank of SP5. He had been employed by Modulus and was well-known in his position as an auto salesman for Graft Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Jeep, Scottdale, now Graft Sales and Service. He was most recently employed by DJB associates. Joe held memberships with Scottdale Elks BPOE 777 where he served as a trustee for 25 years, the Polish American Club, Everson, Scottdale American Legion and the Bridgeport Sportsman’s Club.
“Joe-Joe”, as he became known by his close family, is survived by his wife, Pamela (Soforic) Sabat, who was the love of his life for 17 years; his only child and loving daughter, Jodie (Sabat) Dowden (Warren Boord); his grandson, Zachary Dowden, cherished brothers-in-law, Amos (Theresa) Soforic, Steven Soforic and Ernest Meader, his many nieces and nephews, his faithful companions Simon and Peanut, and his dear family friend, Claudia Smouse. A special word of thanks is given to friends, Jimmy and Luann Mongell, who were very supportive during Joe’s illness. The family also expresses their sincere gratitude to the ICU/PCU departments at Excela Frick Hospital for their care and support.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Michael Sabat and Linda Soforic.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERIVCES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale where prayers of transfer will be held on Friday at 10:30 am followed by Joe’s funeral Mass at 11 am in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Scottdale with Rev. Elmer Alforque as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Scottdale Cemetery. The Scottdale Elks will conduct a memorial service on Thursday at 7 pm in the funeral home.
