Marianne Magdalena Kaufman, 80, of Ruffsdale, died Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was born June 1,1933, in Erfurt-Gispersleben, Germany, a daughter of the late Herman and Elsa Koch.
Marianne worked as an accounting clerk in Germany before coming to the United States in 1963 with her husband, the late Martin Kaufman, who died in 2004.
She is survived by four children, Martina, of Ruffsdale, Christina, of Shelbyville, Ky., Dirk and his wife, Mary, of Scottdale, and Ken and his wife, Judy, of Greensburg; a brother, Helmut, and sister, Ursela, both of Erfurt, Germany; five grandchildren, Caroline Sheedy and her husband, Jared Bajkowski, of Washington D.C., David Sheedy of Greensburg, Paul Dascani of Louisville, Ky., Regis and Lucas Kaufman of Scottdale; and numerous nieces and nephews in Germany.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gunther in 1984 and a sister, Ruth, in 1932.
There will be no public visitation. You are welcome to attend a memorial service to celebrate Marianne's life on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Scottdale Mennonite Church, 801 Market St., Scottdale, Pa., with the Rev. Conrad Mast officiating. A fellowship meal at the church will follow the service. Marianne lived a life equally full of blessings and challenges. She fought a good fight when most would have given up. She is cherished by her family and will be missed.
