Mary Stiltenpole

Mary Lou Stiltenpole, 89, of Scottdale, passed away, Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Excela Frick Hospital. She was born July 17, 1924 in Scottdale a daughter of the late George E. and Blanche (Hixson) Fretts.

Mary Lou was a lifelong resident of Scottdale where she remained active participating in many civic affairs. Most notably, she was a volunteer for Excela Frick Hospital with 38 years service and was honored for attaining 8600 hours of community service.

Mary Lou and her husband Nevin operated Nevin's Market on South Chestnut Street in Scottdale for 22 years. Nevin preceded her in death on March 4, 1987.

She was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant having held various offices over the years. She was a current member of the Scottdale Book Club, the Saturday Afternoon Club and was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School Class of 1942. Her interests were reading, gardening and cooking.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Nevin; Mary Lou was preceded in death by a brother George G. Fretts in 1992; and her sister in law, Thelma Forsythe in 2014.

She is survived by her loving sister, Betty Jane Weaver of Lexington, KY; three nieces, Kendra W. Jones (Brian); and Candace W. Ballard of Lexington; and Janet F. Treser (Walter) of Mars; two great-nieces, Meredith Trimble (Ryan) of Unionville, CT; Courtney Justice (Brandon) of Pikeville, KY; three great-nephews, Todd Jones (Courtney) of Lexington, KY; Kent Ballard (Melissa) of Louisville, KY: and Ben Ballard of Bozeman, MT; Mary Lou loved and cherished her 10 great-great nieces and nephews, Carter; triplets, Brynley, Piper and Molly Justice; Conner and Avery Jones; Makayla and Madison Ballard and Ian and Madeline Trimble.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 until 8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 am in the funeral home with Rev. Karen C. Thompson officiating. Private interment for the family will take place in the Scottdale Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 822 W. Main St. Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666 or the Scottdale Library 106 Spring St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683
