Mildred Mae (Baumann) Snyder, passed away peacefully on her 106th birthday, April 10, 2021. She was born April 10, 1915 in Scottdale, the first of four children of the late Albert Baumann and Ethel L. Clark Baumann.
She grew up in Iron Bridge and attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse there. In 1933, she graduated as the salutatorian of her class from East Huntingdon High School.
She attended business school at Greensburg Business School and in 1940 she began a 40- year career as an Executive Secretary at The Duraloy Company and its successor entities. In 1949 she was appointed as Assistant Secretary of the company, at the time a milestone for a woman. She served in that capacity and as Office Manager until her retirement in 1980.
In August 1941, she married the Minister's son, Donald J. Snyder and they enjoyed nearly 63 years of marriage until his death just prior to reaching the age of 91 in 2004. They welcomed the birth of their son, Donald J. Snyder, Jr. in 1950 and later welcomed his wife, Karen Foster Snyder and grandchildren, Julie and Andrew Snyder.
She was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church and remembered attending services at the Arcade Theater while the present church building was under construction. She served as a teacher in the Primary Department of the Sunday School, various boards including the Administrative Board. She was a member of the Missionary Society and attended Sunday School regularly.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth B. Andrish and E. Alberta Weaver, her brother, William R. Baumann and her nephew, Mark William Baumann.
She is survived by her son, Donald J. Snyder, Jr. and his wife, Karen F. Snyder of Sarasota, Florida, her granddaughter, Julie E. Snyder of Erdenheim, Pa, grandson, Andrew M. Snyder and Bree Turner Snyder of Burke, Virginia and her great-grandchildren, Wesley J. Bishop, Natalie Mae Bishop, Ava Grace Snyder and Benjamin Meade Snyder. She is also survived by her nephew, Arnold K. Weaver and her nieces, Deborah B. Engle and Cathy A. Baumann.
There will be no public viewing or services and interment will be private. Arrangements for Mrs. Snyder are in the care of GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., SCOTTDALE.
