Pastor Wendell S. Grimm, 84, of Scottdale, passed away peacefully Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 8, 1931 in Alverton, a son of the late Peter Carl and Emmaline (Sherrick) Grimm and raised by Albert and Anna (Kennel) Grimm.
Pastor Grimm was a longtime and faithful member of the Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton, where he had served as pastor for three years. Prior to that, he served at the Mt. Nebo Church of God, Champion, for seven years. Wendell was also well known as the proprietor of the Wendell S. Grimm Insurance Agency, Scottdale, which in later years included Real Estate Services. He was a 50-year Mason of the Marion Lodge F&AM #562, Scottdale, and also held memberships as a Shriner and Tall Cedars. He was a past member and president of the Scottdale Kiwanis Club and a 50-year member of the Ligonier American Legion. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he also served as a First Class Petty Officer in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents and his Uncle Bert and Aunt Annie, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Nowak, and four brothers, Daun and Joseph Grimm, James Shupe and Richard Grimm.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys L. (Nagy) Grimm; his devoted children, Wendy L. Grimm; Dr. David R. Grimm; Christina M. Rowe (James); Pastor Robert W. Grimm (Christina) and Suzanne M. Kramer (Jason); 13 grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie Sodders (Nathan), Stephen Rowe, Matthew Rowe (Andrea), Sebastian, Elias, Aiden and Sydney Grimm, Broderick and Aubriella Grimm, and Julia, Kaleb, Allison and Brooke Kramer; two brothers, Arthur Grimm (Nancy); Thomas Grimm (Julia) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday from 6-8 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at GRAFT-JACQUILLARD FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. 303 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale. Additional viewing will take place on Wednesday at Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton, from 10 am until the time of his funeral service at 11 am with Pastor Lee Kline and Pastor Keith Solomon officiating. Interment will follow in the Alverton Cemetery with military honors bestowed by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard. Marion Lodge #562 F&AM will conduct a memorial service on Monday at 7 pm in the funeral home.
